Royal Caribbean Group (NYSE: RCL), a global leader in vacations, has signed a long-term framework agreement with Meyer Turku shipyard, securing shipbuilding capacity through 2036. As part of the deal, the company has ordered Icon 5 for delivery in 2028. In addition to the previously announced option for Icon 6, Royal Caribbean has added an option for Icon 7. The agreement is subject to customary conditions, including financing, and further strengthens the company’s long-standing partnership with Meyer Turku, one of the world’s most advanced shipyards.

“We are continuing our journey into the future of vacations together with Meyer Turku, further expanding our groundbreaking Icon series. At the same time, we are preparing to lead the industry into a new era of innovation that will redefine the vacation market through 2036,” said Jason Liberty, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean Group.

“This is a landmark moment for our company, and we are proud to embark on a new chapter in our history alongside our valued partners Meyer Turku and the Government of Finland.”

Meyer Turku has already delivered two Icon-class ships, Icon of the Seas (2023) and Star of the Seas (to be delivered in 2025). Legend of the Seas will follow in 2026, and Icon 4 in 2027.

“With the agreements signed today, we are unveiling our joint plan to build additional ships and advance shipbuilding in cooperation with Royal Caribbean and other key partners over the next decade. I am extremely proud of the recognition this represents for the skilled workforce of Meyer Turku and the expertise of the Finnish maritime industry,” said Casimir Lindholm, CEO of Meyer Turku.

“This framework agreement is excellent news for all of Finland. The long-term cooperation between Meyer Turku and Royal Caribbean will continue to make a significant impact on Finland’s economy, create jobs across the country, and energize our unique maritime cluster,” said Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.

“Our strong shipyards, industry, and leading research institutions are producing innovative and sustainable world-class vessels, making Finland an attractive destination for future investment,” added Minister of Employment and the Economy Sakari Puisto.

Royal Caribbean Group continues to expand its portfolio with nine new ships and seven land-based destinations by 2028, reinforcing its position as an innovator in global travel.
