ESL Shipping Renews Its Fleet – Sells M/S Kallio to a Norwegian Company

M/S Kallio

ESL Shipping has sold the vessel M/S Kallio to the Norwegian company The Qrill Company AS. The sale of the vessel, which entered service in 2006, supports ESL Shipping’s green transition and strengthens the financing of new vessels currently under construction.

The sale price of M/S Kallio is approximately EUR 18 million, resulting in a sales gain of about EUR 10 million for Aspo.

“We are making significant investments in fossil-free 1A ice-class Green Handy vessels, and the development of this new vessel type has progressed according to plan. The sale of M/S Kallio strengthens ESL Shipping’s balance sheet and supports the execution of our strategy,” says Aspo’s CEO Rolf Jansson.

“Ensuring sufficient capacity and reliable customer transport services are our priorities under all circumstances. Our first next-generation Green Handy vessel will enter service in about two years, and during the transition period we may consider chartering or acquiring additional vessels if needed,” says ESL Shipping’s Managing Director Mikki Koskinen.

M/S Kallio has sailed under the Finnish flag, and following the sale, ESL Shipping aims to reassign the vessel’s crew to other ships in its fleet whenever possible. The vessel has now been handed over to its new owner, who specializes in the harvesting and processing of marine crustaceans.

Part of the Aspo Group, ESL Shipping is the leading dry bulk carrier in the Baltic Sea, ensuring year-round transport of industrial and energy sector products and raw materials. ESL Shipping supports the green transition of Nordic industrial companies and achieved the highest Platinum level in the Ecovadis sustainability assessment in 2024.
