The Liebherr LHM 550 has been supplied in a container-focused configuration to enable Patimban Global Gateway Terminal to commence container operations while permanent quay equipment is progressively introduced. With its flexible working ranges and high handling performance, the crane is designed to bridge the transition from initial vessel calls to fully developed terminal operations. Its mobility allows the terminal to adapt workflows as berth layouts evolve. The machine’s sturdy design supports reliable operations in a demanding coastal environment. Strategically, Patimban is a national project east of Jakarta intended to complement Tanjung Priok by easing congestion and strengthening the region’s logistics capacity.
A strategic step for Patimban port and its operators
The Patimban port development has been conceived to relieve pressure on established ports near Jakarta and to support Indonesia’s long-term trade ambitions. Within this context, the LHM 550 serves as a practical enabler, allowing first container services to begin without waiting for the full complement of gantry cranes and on the long run to support both the high demand in domestic container and general cargo markets. The selection reflects the consortium’s focus on flexibility and risk-managed commissioning. As development advances, the terminal’s staged plan foresees container capacity in the multi-million TEU range, with phased equipment arrivals aligning operations through 2026 and beyond.
