Constructed by the Uudenkaupungin Työvene shipyard on the southwestern coast of Finland, M/V ’Eloise’ is the latest addition to Västtrafik’s fleet of short-range commuter vessels operating in Gothenburg in Sweden. Utilising the latest hybrid technology, the passenger ferry is exceptionally environmentally-friendly, with very low CO2 emissions.

The goal of the renovation project is to bring the building up to the standard of a new building in terms of e.g. functionality and energy-efficiency. Furthermore, the geothermal energy project, now close to completion, will allow for the heating and cooling of the premises using geothermal energy.

How could cargo vessels schedule their arrival at a port’s newly freed up berth in a timely manner? How could more accurate timetables for unloading a ship be provided to different port operators? And finally: How could the entire logistics chain be made more efficient, becoming fully optimised with a more comprehensive situational picture? The new Maritime DataSpace project, spearheaded by national traffic management agency Fintraffic, is currently searching for answers to these questions. The Maritime DataSpace project is expected to lay a foundation for a groundbreaking shared port stay data communication service.

In December 2022, a floating LNG terminal is expected to arrive at Inkoo Port on the southern coast of Finland. With a storage capacity of 150,900 cubic metres, the LNG terminal vessel ’Exemplar’ will deliver liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the needs of Finnish and Estonian industries throughout the next ten years.
