Water treatment on cruise ships – Technology that creates experiences

A cruise ship is a world of its own at sea. Guests relax by the pool, enjoy the view and experience days full of discoveries. To make them feel comfortable on board, water plays a central role in many ranges - in the pool, in the bathroom, in the drinking glass. ProMinent's systems ensure that everything works in the background.

Water technology for everyday life on board

Water treatment on a cruise ship requires solutions that are robust, space-saving and flexible. The ship is constantly on the move, the environment changes and the supply still has to run smoothly. Together with Kovar, the plant manufacturer for the shipyard, ProMinent has realised a well thought-out concept for the new construction of a cruise ship.

The focus is on the interplay between technology and everyday life on board: water that offers guests relaxation and comfort, and systems that make operations easier for the crew. This includes precise dosing, simple controls and a reliable supply of spare parts – even when the ship is travelling far from the shipyard.

Initial situation at a glance

• Industry: Marine, cruise ships (Meyer shipyard in northern Germany)

• Application: Pool water, drinking water, waste water

• Ship size: 300-350 metres in length

• Special requirements: Stable water quality, fast spare parts supply, compact design

Continuous water treatment from a single source

Various ProMinent components on board treat the water. The beta/ X, gamma and sigma diaphragm pumps meter the exact amount of disinfectant required. DULCOMETER diaLog DACb and Compact Controllers keep the pH value and chlorine in balance – for clean, pleasant water in the pools.

DULCODES UV systems are used for drinking water. They disinfect without chemicals and contribute to consistently high water quality. ULTROMAT polymer preparation systems support wastewater treatment by precisely metering flocculants and thus facilitating cleaning.

All processes on the ship can be monitored and controlled centrally via a control system – whether on a PC or tablet. This saves distances, creates an overview and gives the crew safety in daily operations.

ProMinent manufactures almost all components itself – from sensors to points of injection. This keeps tuning simple and spare parts quickly available. This means that the technology can continue to run smoothly even when the ship is travelling far from a port.

Relaxed travelling, stable operation

ProMinent’s water treatment system helps guests to relax on board. They swim in clear water, drink freshly treated water and enjoy an all-round pleasant holiday.

For the crew, the result is a reliable system that is easy to operate and maintain. Regular checks are carried out quickly and spare parts are available quickly if required. This keeps operations stable – even under changing conditions at sea.

The collaboration between Kovar, Meyer Werft and ProMinent shows how experience and technical precision go hand in hand. The result is a solution that makes everyday life on board easier and ensures the quality of the water in the long term.

Conclusion

Water technology that makes relaxation possible: ProMinent supplies systems that keep the water quality on board stable – in the pool, in the bath and in the drinking glass. This ensures a sense of well-being for guests and makes operations easier for the crew – on every voyage, worldwide.
